We've got wellness in mind in this edition of Karma Chronicles. Two decades ago, spas were something of a novelty that people associated vaguely with Scandinavia. Today, the spa experience is integral to any destination worth its purified Himalayan crystal salt. It's not only about pampering - the key word here is wellness. People are much more conscious of the value of balance in their lives and of the many options that are available to achieve that balance. At Karma, we like to be at the vanguard, which is why this September we are bringing in two highly accomplished healers, skilled in a range of esoteric systems, who will be carrying out both seminars and private sessions for guests over a two week period.
They say change is as good as a rest - these guys may well be able to help you with transformation. Read all about it in our Spiritual Surgeries feature. We're also thinking environmental wellness - which is why we'll soon be applying the principals of Gaia to our resort operations; find out more in our Karma Gaia article. Last edition we introduced Matt Seamark, Karma Jimbaran's new GM - now's your chance to get up close and personal with the man, as we sit down with him for a chat. Chef Simon's got celluloid on his mind in this edition's Simon Says and in the news section, we announce some exciting new additions to the Karma team. There's a new collection to get excited about at K-Boutique, a slew of news stories on Karma, plus all the summer high season events to look forward to. Yes, there's a lot to feel well about...

The notion of Gaia was first developed by biologist James Lovelock in the 1960s and has proven to be seminal in the development of ideas about the earth as an integrated, living system. Put in its simplest terms, the Gaia hypothesis postulates that the earth is not just a big rock with a layer of life on it belting round the sun, but is in fact a living organism and that everything that is a part of the earth - be it animate or inanimate - is an essential element in the organism. Basically, everything is connected...
