Many of those close to Karma will be aware that we have a certain penchant for the noble sport of Rugby Union – an enthusiasm that is reflected in a wide range of high profile ties with the game. As reported in previous editions of Karma Chronicles, international caps including legendary Australian centre Tim Horan are among Karma’s ambassadors and Karma is a key sponsor of burgeoning Perth rugby team Western Forces. And then there’s the England 7’s team. |

Karma was an official sponsor of the England Rugby Sevens team from 2004-2007…but I’m getting ahead of myself. What is Rugby Sevens? It’s played on a normal sized pitch, but with just three forwards, three backs and a scrum half. Each half of the game lasts only seven minutes, making the action intense and explosive and allowing for tournaments to take place over short periods of time. Such is the growing popularity of the game, it has just been awarded Olympic status and will be part of the 2016 Olympic games. Karma has just renewed its contract with the England Rugby Sevens for the period 2009-12, which means that very soon, some of England’s most talented players will be staying at Karma Kandara as they undertake their punishing training routine.
Back in 2006, Karma hosted the Sevens team at Karma Jimbaran, going as far as to undertake extensive renovations of a training ground at the nearby Udayana University. The same facility will provide the current Sevens team with an area in which to practise their tackling, kicking, rucking, mauling, running and handling when they arrive at Karma Kandara in March 2010 in preparation for the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens tournament in Hong Kong at the end of that month. Over the next three years, Karma will continue to host the England Rugby Union Sevens at its resorts in Bali and India as the team undergoes rigorous preparations for major tournaments. That means that owners and guests could very well find themselves hobnobbing with some of the UK's finest athletes… after they’ve done a few ascents/descents of the steps at Karma Kandara of course.
