The journey is the destination, as the saying goes - that’s why the Karma bodyworkers are constantly learning and improving their already considerable therapeutic skills (their hybrid techniques incorporate a range of modalities from traditional Balinese massage, to acupressure to Reiki). December sees them working with Bali’s most highly regarded massage therapy and training brand. BALI - KARMA RUBDOWN'S NEW WOW FACTOR
| In December, Karma Spa worked with the fabulous Jari Menari Training team to upgrade the Karma Rubdown massage to an even more WOW experience. Karma Senior Trainers, Alit and Tari spent 2 days working with Jari Menari Founder, Susan Stein I Gde Nyoman Indra Prabawa (IGNIP) and Syaiful Hadi, engaging in enhancing the session by removing a few techniques and focusing on a new, balanced flow of the delivery. Jari Menari, means ‘dancing fingers’ in Indonesian. This is the name given to a technique used while massaging the muscles of the neck and was recently incorporated in to the Karma Rubdown session. |

Accupressure, which is the key distinction of the Karma Rubdown was reviewed with an emphasis on going into the meridian points slowly and steadily and returning the same way so the guest can feel the release of energy when the point is activated rather than a strong thrust of a thumb which can be a bit shocking to the system. Another aspect to the training was to change the delivery of the session, adding “unpredictability in the sequence of delivery” which allows the receiver to stop thinking about what may come next, thus quickly relaxing fully in mind and spirit into the session.

SPA DIRECTOR FOR INDIA
November saw the long-awaited appointment of Karma Spa's first Spa Director for India. Dr.Siddhartha Deshpande. With over a decade experience in Ayurveda, five star spa and the medical industry, we felt him the right fit to take hold of the Karma Spas in India and take the brand to the next level. Dr. Siddhartha will at first be responsible for managing the newly opened karma spas in Goa, after which he will work with spa curator, Judy Chapman, on developing our spas in Jaipur and Kerala. Dr. Siddhartha derives from a family of doctors and physicians and specializes in Ayurvedic and Panchakarma treatments and formulates his own medicines as per the traditional ayurvedic procedures. As well as building a strong team of therapists trained in Ayurveda, asian and western spa therapies, he will also be assisting in the development of Karma's own Ayurvedic herbal oil product line for operational and retail. |

Yes, Janine “Powerhouse” Parry will be returning to Karma Kandara to remind you of those promises you made to yourself as the new year unfolded. A very much ‘in demand’ Personal Trainer and Boxercise instructor, Janine will remind you that true Karma is all about balance. She will be our resident “fitness fiend” at Karma Kandara from late January, until she can instill the virtues of being a fitter and stronger person in 2010.
