KARMA SPA OPENS IN GOA INDIA: A SOULFUL SPA BRAND IS BORN
October 21st saw the unveiling of Karma's flagship spa in India within the royal grounds of Haathi Mahal resort in the famed southern resort district of Goa, with three more following close behind. Enter a world of pure harmony where white stone floors, arches, domed ceilings, soulful music and soft dreamy drapes create a temple experience. Karma Spa features six therapy rooms inclusive of a traditional Kerala Ayurvedic therapy room and couples treatment room. Achieve renewal within the stone steam room, surrounded by seductive white marble. The Spa Club Lounge, fitted out with a complimentary tea bar, is the place for pedicures and indulgent foot rituals for both men and women.
Spa Curator Judy Chapman has spent twenty years travelling the globe in search of the best spas. She was the previous Editor-in-Chief of Spa Asia magazine and is author of four books on spas.
In her words: “India has long been one of my favourite spa destinations. I’ve travelled here several times, primarily in regions like Kerala and Jaipur where some of the most authentic and beautiful spas are found. What’s exciting is that Goa is now tipped to be an exciting spa destination – with spas like Karma Spa offering a blend of Ayurvedic, Western and Asian therapies.”
The menu features a mix of traditional Ayurvedic curatives like the Shirodhara and Podikkizy (where warm herbal compresses are pressed and pounded along the body to soothe sore muscles), as well as Asian therapies like the traditional Thai massage and the signature ‘Karma Maya Massage’ that comprises Tibetan singing bowl therapy, Reiki and colour chakra visualization. Sublime spa facials are delivered with pure Indian rosewater and exquisite aromatherapy compresses whilst the on-site Ayurvedic physician will prescribe programs tailored to the individual.
What’s appealing is that the spa offers experiences that are affordable to everyone. From the ‘Kerala Warrior Foot Massage’ valued at Rs 600 to the ‘Healing Stones Chakra Massage’ at Rs 1200, the choices are abundant.
By the end of November there will be eight Karma Spas including three in Bali, one in Thailand and four in Goa with plans for a spa in Kerala underway.
