Following the successful launch of the Karma Spa brand at Karma Kandara, sister resort Karma Jimbaran is now receiving its own healing facelift. We catch up with Karma Spa curator Judy Chapman, who’s been working hard to create another outstanding destination spa experience.
What is unique about the new Karma Jimbaran spa facility?
We’re installing a brand new steam room, we have outdoor baths for the traditional Bali experience, all products are organic and the staff are learning holistic massage styles from a Chinese medical practitioner. Above all, it’s also a really affordable spa facility – yet still of the highest quality.
Where is it in the resort?
The spa, gym, library are all in one wellness facility designed specifically for these purposes – you can work out in the gym, follow it up with a spa treatment and then relax in the library with a healthy snack.
Is there a signature treatment you would recommend and can you describe it?
The Blue Light Energy Massage – it’s a Himalayan blend made of Juniper Berry, lemon, lime, rosemary and spruce essential oils. These are warmed and poured along the spine, lower legs and feet. We then apply glass stones, which are then smoothed across the skin to deliver a deep tissue therapy with an emphasis on Swedish long stroke techniques. We’re also launching integrated packages – for example, a Balinese spa ritual followed by a candlelit dinner in your villa.
Where have you sourced the spa products for Karma Jimbaran
Adria Lake makes all of our products – she’s the foremost creator of limited edition products for the best spa and hotel brands. Because it’s limited edition, it’s always fresh and no product is ever exactly the same.
What kind of training do you give your bodyworkers?
Well, for the last month, they’ve been training with an amazing Chinese health practitioner. Then there’s Joko, who is an Indonesian Chinese practitioner skilled in reflexology, massage, acupuncture and a range of other healing modalities, mainly Chinese based. All are given training in Reiki too.
What’s the concept behind the spa tapas menu?
It really appeals to the expat market – it’s based on my experience where I’d go and get all in one treatments in Seminyak – Mani Pedi and facial for example. It’s convenient when you’re really busy. We have a range of quick & easy combinations delivered by skilled therapists that are really great value.
Do you have visiting masters?
We have a fantastic Reiki master and Craniosacral therapy exponent called Elyssa, another Balinese Reiki master called Made and then Ketut, who is the island’s most skilled western trained sports therapist. Bali is bountiful with amazing healers and these are three of the very best.
Are activities like yoga available at Karma Jimbaran?
We offer in-villa private yoga sessions with Agus Made who is a highly advanced practitioner. He teaches a style of Hatha yoga, with special focus on core strength.
What’s the design of the spa facility like?
There are black Japanese timber floors with floor to ceiling flowing white drapes and black and white batik elements, which give it a chic feel. The sound of flowing water and crystal singing bowls create a tranquil audio environment.
