The new Karma Spa brand has quickly established its identity in Bali, its launch pad. Karma’s spa curator Judy Chapman – an acknowledged expert in the realms of beauty, wellbeing and healing – has developed a genuinely holistic experience combining top of the line organic products, intensive training for therapists, 21st century facilities and the employment of experts in a whole range of fields from yoga to shamanic healing. Here, she reveals the future of Karma Spa as it unfolds worldwide as a crucial element in the Karma Collection.
Certified organic therapies, therapists trained by Ayurvedic, Chinese doctors and Reiki masters, an eco karma spa product line plus celebrity-led bootcamp & yoga escapes - the launch of Karma Spas by Karma Resorts worldwide represents the next generation in holistic travel and spa culture.
With a successful launch already achieved at Karma Kandara Bali, by the last quarter of 2009, all Karma Resorts will house a Karma Spa wellbeing facility. The distinction? Treatments more like soulful encounters than your average rubdown. All karma spa therapists are being trained in yoga, nutrition & health and most significantly, by the third quarter of 2009, each Karma Spa will be a mostly chemical-free environment inclusive of organic linens & uniforms, amenities and cleaning fluids.
July 1st sees the launch of 'Karma Spa Wellbeing' located in the calming grounds of Karma Resorts Jimbaran, one of Bali's best beach resort locations. The all-white timber spa with cream & charcoal furnishings is being designed with detox & regeneration in mind. Guests can cleanse their aura via Himalayan crystal salt scrubs bestowed in steam rooms followed by massage with healing oil performed to chakra sound therapy. A dedicated men’s spa area offering male focused therapies will be complimented by the opening of a spa club lounge space featuring a complimentary tea bar & antioxidant-rich drinks.
Slated to open by August 2009 is Karma Spa at Haathi Mahal in Goa, India. Design-wise, the all white interior features cool white stone floors, long flowing cream drapes & arched white walls that create a dreamy atmosphere. The theme here is all crystals, gems & jewels. Imagine Himalayan salt scrubs, an amethyst crystal steam room, rose quartz crystal facials & aromatherapy relaxation lounges. All this plus authentic Ayurvedic therapies administered by spa therapists trained by Dr. Siva Kumar, a revered Ayurvedic doctor from Kerala.
At the same time, Karma Spa in Koh Samui is undergoing a dramatic refurbishment. A domed-roof shaped spa lounge entrance opens out to a timber walkway flanked by green bamboo leading guests to cocoon-style treatment spaces. Organic Thai therapies are bestowed by Level 1 Reiki trained therapists complimented by Reiki-infused facials and holistic massages. As well, a beachfront sala where guests can take incredible Thai massages where there's nothing but the infinite ocean as one's point of view.
By the year's end there will be seven karma spas across Bali, Thailand & India including a boutique Karma Spa in Jimbaran as well as three Karma Spas across India. In conjunction to this, Karma’s commitment to local and sustainable ingredients will be revealed through a boutique collection of spa products reflecting each of Karma’s destinations around the globe.
