KARMA SPA

Over the last few months, the spa experience at Karma has been undergoing a radical transformation, one that has launched it decisively into the 21st century. A vision of the future it may be, but the new Karma Spa is just as much an archaic revival of time-honoured techniques as it is a showcase of cutting edge treatments. Above all, Karma Spa is multidisciplinary, approaching wellness in a genuinely holistic way that taps into everything from core strength yoga to oxygen infusion facials, cranio-sacral reiki to sea salt and fresh kelp scrubs.

The individual charged with bringing together and integrating the many elements that now make up Karma Spa is Judy Chapman, one of the foremost Spa consultants in the Asia region. A former editor of Spa Asia magazine and the author of numerous books on aromatherapy, spas and related health issues, Judy has amassed a wealth of knowledge and innovative ideas during her career. She has brought all these skills to bear on Karma Spa, recruiting a diverse selection of international health experts and ensuring that full time staff are trained to the very highest standards in their given discipline. Every Karma Spa bodyworker is certified level one Reiki as well as having undergone extensive tutoring in massage techniques to further enhance their innate abilities. Visiting masters include local Reiki specialist Made (pronounced Mahday) and physical therapist Ketut, the only certified sports injury therapist on the island. Gabrielle Soucek (M.Sc.) is a clinical psychologist and a practitioner of Raindrop Technique, an exciting new wellness treatment using medicine grade essential oils and nerve stimulating strokes to release toxins from the body.

Treatments take place at Karma Kandara, in Karma Spa's trio of sublime spa shacks suspended at the very edge of a vertiginous cliff face 100 meters above the Indian Ocean. A glass walled infrared sauna is the perfect way to send oxygenated blood surging to the capillaries – you can see and feel the difference after just half and hour. Best followed up with a complimentary soak in the cliff-hanging Himalayan crystal salt bath. The Intraceutical Oxygen Infusion Facial is a sensational new treatment, which use therapeutic grade oxygen to help deliver plumped and dewy skin – a host of celebrities, including Madonna, swear by it. If guests prefer, a wide range of therapies can also be arranged in the privacy of their own villa.

Already garnering praise from the media, Karma Spa is at the vanguard of the new generation of spa facilities, reflecting Karma Collection's continued dedication to bring its clients experiences that are truly singular and of course, infinitely pleasurable.
